Apple the dog was trapped in an Ermelo drain until Angela van Huyssteen fearlessly stepped in to save the day.

A heartwarming act of kindness unfolded in Ermelo when a local woman, Angela van Huyssteen of Smokey Pet Parlour, fearlessly rescued a dog named Apple that had become trapped in a stormwater drain.

Concerned residents took to a community WhatsApp group to report that Apple was stuck and in need of help.

When Highvelder arrived at the scene, no one was there yet, but soon Van Huyssteen and a few others showed up to assist.

As the group discussed how best to free the frightened animal, Angela wasted no time and jumped into action.

Without hesitation and without considering her own safety, especially since it had initially been reported that the dog appeared aggressive towards the person who first spotted her, Angela reached into the drain and pulled Apple to safety, a moment that left everyone in awe.

Once freed, Apple was given a tin of dog food, which she eagerly devoured some of. Despite her ordeal, Apple remained calm and gentle, though clearly a bit shaken.

A short while later, her relieved owner, Gareth Chetty, arrived at the scene after hearing of the rescue.

Overcome with gratitude, he thanked everyone involved — although it was Angela, whose quick thinking and courage ensured Apple’s safe return home.
