Taxi hits pedestrian at busy Ermelo intersection

A woman was injured this afternoon after being struck by a taxi near the Pick n Pay robot on the Amersfoort Road in Ermelo.

ERMELO – A woman, whose age is not yet known, was struck by a taxi this afternoon at the Pick n Pay traffic light on the N11 Amersfoort Road, heading out of Ermelo.

When Highvelder arrived at the scene, the woman was lying motionless on the side of the road while several bystanders stood nearby.

It is unclear whether they were commuters from the taxi involved.

At that stage, no ambulance or police were yet on the scene — only a traffic officer and, shortly afterwards, Ermelo Towing Services.

An ambulance passed the area but was reportedly busy transferring another patient.

After some time, a provincial ambulance arrived, and paramedics immediately attended to the woman.

She responded to them and was placed on a stretcher before being transported to the hospital.

The extent of her injuries was not known at the time of publication.
