Driver dies in head-on collision on N11 near Ermelo

A motorist sadly lost their life when a small vehicle and a truck collided head-on about 10km outside Ermelo on the N11 Hendrina Road.

ERMELO  – An accident occurred about 10km outside Ermelo on the N11 Hendrina Road earlier today when a small vehicle and a truck collided head-on.

The exact cause of the accident is not yet known, but the impact was severe enough to claim the life of the driver of the smaller vehicle.

The N11 was closed for an extensive period as emergency services attended to the scene, causing significant traffic delays that stretched for several kilometres.

Officials remained on-site awaiting the arrival of pathology services to recover the body from the wreckage.

Members of the Msukaligwa Fire and Rescue Services used hydraulic equipment to cut open the vehicle to remove the deceased.

Emergency services, police, traffic officials, the Msukaligwa Fire and Rescue Services, as well as Sesha, Van Wettens and Ermelo Towing Services were all in attendance.

Once the body had been retrieved, clean-up operations commenced to clear the roadway.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the collision.

The road is open again with traffic flowing slowly.
