ERMELO – A young baker, Mayrigh Snyman, has officially begun his professional training at the Baked Academy in Johannesburg following years of support from the Ermelo community.

Mayrigh’s interest in baking and creative arts began at a young age, with residents and businesses supporting his development since he was 14 years old.

Through community-funded courses and various local opportunities, he was able to build a foundation in the culinary arts as a teenager.

The Community Uplifting Group played a significant role in securing the necessary tuition through funds raised during the 2025 Christmas Market and Masquerade Ball.

These contributions, alongside donations from various individuals and businesses, allowed him to enroll in the prestigious Johannesburg academy.

While his family noted that additional funds are still required to complete his studies, they expressed deep gratitude to the town for believing in his talent.

“To every individual and business in Ermelo who opened their hearts and contributed – thank you. Because of you, Mayrigh is able to attend Baked Academy and pursue his passion. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for believing in him and for helping make this dream come true,” said his mother, Cha-may.
