BookHive visits Ermelo schools to promote reading among learners
Bashele Primary and Lindile Secondary learners explored the importance of reading through engaging activities and inspiring messages.
BookHive visited Bashele Primary and Lindile Secondary School in Ermelo earlier today as part of its programme aimed at encouraging children and youth in disadvantaged communities to read.
The non-profit organisation, which promotes a culture of reading and writing in schools and communities, is visiting schools around Mpumalanga to educate learners about the importance of reading.
The programme brought together learners, the Department of Education and other stakeholders.
Activities included the opening, an explanation of the purpose of the visit, talks, Inganekwane, reading sessions, a guest educator, learner reading, poetry and motivational speeches, library services, and the handover of books.
Learners’ performances and inspirational messages prompted enthusiastic reactions from pupils and stakeholders, with singing, poetry and motivational activities forming part of the programme.
BookHive’s visit forms part of its effort to encourage young people to develop a stronger culture of reading and writing.
