Is this daylight robbery or not?

Making ends meet is getting more and more difficult by the day

Concerned consumer, Ermelo:

In response to the letter, “I feel cheated” (Highvelder, 4 September) the following.
I was a sucker for punishment in the same way.

Before the 1 July tariff increase I purchased R5 000’s worth of electricity and was charged R1,58 per unit.

However, if one purchases R500’s worth today, one pays only R1,20 per unit.

Fact is, the more electricity one buys, the higher the cost is per unit.

The tragedy is that the majority of people do not understand how the system works.

I would really appreciate it if the financial head of the Msukaligwa utility services department could assist by explaining to us as consumers how the system works.

Making ends meet is getting more and more difficult by the day and in my view it is the responsibility of the local government to communicate with consumers and keep them informed.

This is of great importance to us all as it will enable us to do responsible financial planning in future.
