Am I only dreaming?
Listening to the promises made, one could easily be led to believe that whichever party or candidate wins a particular ward or council seat, all these problems will soon be taken care of and a quick fix is on the cards.

As journalists, we get to move around and see pretty much all areas of our town.
To a greater or lesser degree this may also be the case with individuals, service providers, police, security company members and emergency personnel who, due to the nature of their work, have to criss-cross the town on our suburban roads.
Along the way we see things and sights the authorities or powers-that-be don’t seem to notice.
Why this is so is indeed baffling. How come they don’t seem to notice the deep potholes, water and sewage running down the streets, broken and faulty electrical boxes and sub-stations, dark streets at night, litter strewn in the streets and piles of garbage on almost every tract of vacant land?
If it is because the same route to the office and back is taken every day, one would like to suggest that the long way to work should be taken for a change. It could be an eye opener for some.
It is really sad that, for so long, things have been allowed to deteriorate to such a state of disrepair and dilapidation with hardly any meaningful attempts to clean the town up and get it working as it should again.
Looking at the posters of the various political parties calling for our votes in the upcoming municipal elections and listening to the promises made, one could easily be led to believe that whichever party or candidate wins a particular ward or council seat, all these problems will soon be taken care of and a quick fix is on the cards.
We can only sincerely trust that once they have our votes, all the promises made by the parties and candidates in the run-up to the elections will in time be honoured, irrespective of who or which political party wins.
Yes, you may say I’m a dreamer.
