Lumoja FC wins inaugural Sibusiso Sobuhle Soccer Tournament at Mpumalanga Stadium

The winning team walked away with R5 000, a trophy and a medal sponsored by the tournament hosts, Dros Ermelo.

The Lumoja Football Club’s U/13 side are the winners of the inaugural Sibusiso Sobuhle Football Tournament that took place at the Mpumalanga Stadium on Heritage Day, 24 September.

The developmental soccer side defeated Mpumalanga United from Thusiville in the final to clinch the trophy in a nail biting 5-4 penalty shoot out.

Lumoja showed class on the road to the final and beat Sun City Gunners Football Club 3-0 in the semi-final.

Mpumalnga United settled for second place and Mighty Stars took the third spot.

Sun City Gunners came fourth.

Mpumalanga United’s Mpilonhle Mnisi was named the player of the tournament and his teammate, Olwethu Mabuza, was hailed the best goalkeeper of the tournament.

Lumoja FC’s Olwethu Maling took the trophy for leading scorer in the tournament after he netted three goals.

The winning team walked away with R5 000, a trophy and a medal sponsored by the tournament hosts, Dros Ermelo, while the individual achievers got trophies and R500 Dros vouchers.

“As business people and residents of Ermelo, we are proud and honoured to host this first Sibuso Sobuhle Trading Enterprise Dros Soccer Tournament and it will be an annual tournament which we hope will grow bigger and better,” Mr Lucky Mathibela, CEO of Sibusiso Sobuhle Trading Enterpreise and Dros Ermelo, said.

Mr Mathibela added their wish is to also include young girls who play the sport and showcase the talent that is in abundance in Ermelo.

“We thank Sibusiso Sobuhle Trading Enterprises and Dros for giving these young soccer stars this amazing opportunity as it will give them hope and motivation to become better players and human beings in our community,” Mr Honey Maseko, SAFA regional leader, concluded.
