Kearsney choir sings a song of victory

The school choir won the boys' category and a Cum Laud award at the ATKV Applous Choir competition in Bloemfontein at the weekend.

KEARSNEY College choir delivered a a confident, polished performance of challenging choral music to win the boys’ category and a Cum Laude award at the ATKV Applous Choir Competition in Bloemfontein at the weekend.

This competition is the national benchmark event in SA schools’ choral music.

Kearsney entered the competition for the first time and competed against 160 outstanding choirs from throughout the country. They won the boys’ advanced section, with Grey Bloem placing second and Affies third.

The overall winners were the Stellenberg Meisieskoor from the Western Cape (with 94.76 per cent) and Gauteng’s Menlopark High School Choir (in the mixed choir category, attained 90.2 per cent) were runners-up.

Kearsney received 90.1 per cent, placing third overall, a notable achievement since the competition’s emphasis was on Afrikaans music and most of the participating schools were Afrikaans home language schools.
