Well-fought win for Westville team

Westville Boys' High School won 1-0.

WESTVILLE Boys’ High School’s 1st XI won another close encounter against Michaelhouse at the weekend.

WBHS travelled to the Midlands on Saturday for a full set of soccer fixtures against their Michaelhouse counterparts. Westville had to make a few changes to the team that took on Northwood last week due to injuries to key players Kyan Braithwaite and Jacques Bleekers. Bongani Ndimande and Smiso Buthelezi stepped up to play in the first team on Saturday.

Both sides pressed for the opening goal in the first half with both enjoying periods of good possession but neither was able to convert this possession into points.

Half time saw a few changes to the WBHS side, with Nhlanhla Blose being replaced by Shane Ball.

The change had the desired impact with WBHS using the extra space in the midfield and Bongani Ndimande in particular beginning to dominate.

Despite this they could not find the back of the net despite Jason Oakes and Smiso Buthelezi both missing good chances.

With only five minutes left to play it was up to Man of the Match, Ndimande, to score a cracking goal from 20 yards as the ball flew into the bottom right corner.
