Recycling reflects well on KSP

KSP wins national Glass Recycling competition.

KLOOF Senior Primary was declared the national winners of The Glass Recycling Company’s (TGRC) Annual Schools’ Glass Recycling Competition, in honour of National Glass Recycling Month, on Thursday 19 September.

TGRC awarded the school with R50 000 for their efforts as environmental warriors.

According to the school’s principal, Bernice Finch, the recycling initiatives were driven by Melody Morris, one of the teachers at the school.

“She is a huge contributor to not only the school, but also recycling,” said Finch.

Shabeer Jhetam, the CEO of TGRC, announced on Thursday that the school managed to collect and astounding 43 000 kg of glass from February to June.

Collectively, approximately 125 schools, from Gauteng, the Cape Peninsula, Durban and Pietermaritzburg entered the competition and managed to collect more than 200 000 kg of glass during the five-month competition.

“KwaZulu-Natal managed to collect the most glass out of all of the provinces, thus you are not only the friendliest, but also the greenest province in South Africa. Therefore you are truly the ambassadors of recycling. This is a proud moment at Kloof Senior Primary,” said Brian Roger, group operations director for Console Glass.
