Cartoon Network inspires young artists

Cartoon Network's Animation Generation winner is announced.

ANIMATION Generation, the exciting, nationwide competition hosted by Cartoon Network, celebrated its 8th year in South Africa with a record breaking 13 021 entries.

The initiative is a drawing competition, which promotes illustration and celebrates the imagination of the many talented young South Africans in schools across the country. The theme for this year’s Animation Generation was the hit comedy Adventure Time. Pupils were encouraged to design and create an original hero or heroine or villain to join Finn, Jake, Princess Bubblegum and Lady Rainicorn as they travel through The Land of Ooo on unusual and bizarre escapades.

Eight-year-old Enhle Majola from Lyndhurst Primary in New Germany was the overall winner.

She won an Ipad and a Cartoon Network hamper with Adventure Time and CN Animation Generation goodies. However, the best part is that she will be able to see her creation brought to life on Cartoon Network this October in an Adventure Time promo. Additionally, Enhle’s school won R7 000 to enhance the art facilities at her school, to further improve the creativity of her school’s pupils.

“Creativity plays an integral role in the development of all children and Cartoon Network’s hit comedy Adventure Time is all about letting your imagination run wild.

This is the perfect pairing. The aim of this year’s competition was to give students the opportunity to harness their natural creativity and the entries did not disappoint – they were original, exciting and of an exceptional standard,” said Tal Hewitt, VP and GM of Turkey, Middle East and Africa for Turner Broadcasting System.

All the winning artwork will soon be displayed on www.cartoonnetworkafrica.com/animationgeneration.
