St Mary’s awards evening ends on a high note

St Mary's matrics ended their schooling on a high note.

ST Mary’s DSG’s annual High School Awards Evening ended on a high as the girls broke into a musical number to end their final year at school.

The Guest of Honour was retiring Principal, Tyna Charter who praised the St Mary’s girls for their enthusiasm and love of life.

“And this brings me to the girls – you are St Mary’s. I love the St Mary’s girls because of their earnestness, their intuitive insight and their intellectual capacity, but also because of their exuberance and sense of fun – those Thursday or Friday mornings with music booming and spontaneous dancing brightened my day as much as it hurt my ears! I think of the wonderful interhouse plays and fabulous interhouse dancing and singing, the art that you create, the passion that you have for your sport and for your friends. Will anyone who has seen your awe inspiring spirit at the D&D gala ever forget the experience!”

Awards were presented to those who had achieved academically, culturally and in the sports field. Special awards were also given to those who have made a difference to the school and enriched the lives of their fellow learners.

Katherine Dzwig was Dux and Magdalena Rossouw – runner up to Dux.

The evening ended with the matrics’ farewell dinner held in the beautifully decorated marquee for the matrics and their parents.
