Roseway pupils open their hearts for HACT

In an effort to make Christmas time a happy time for as many children as possible, Roseway Waldorf pupils donated gift bags filled with goodies to the HACT.

PUPILS from Roseway Waldorf High School donated Christmas gifts to be given to the Hillcrest AIDS Centre Trust’s (HACT) Children’s Department on Monday morning.

“The Children’s Department will be looking after more than 500 children this Christmas, many of whom are orphans, and most of whom are living under extreme poverty and in very challenging circumstances,” said Laurel Oettlé, the marketing and fundraising coordinator at the Hillcrest AIDS Centre Trust.

Four hundred of these children are part of the HACT Children’s Programme, 80 children are part of the families on the HACT Feeding Scheme, and others are living in an orphanage in the Valley.

The presents consisted of a blanket, a sweet, a book, pencil crayons, a card, and were all contained in a gift bag. The pupils at Roseway decided to make the gifts that much more personal as the blankets and bags were embroidered on, the books were covered in handmade paper and the cards were unique, carefully designed by hand, and contained beautiful messages.

“These pupils have certainly helped make this Christmas extremely special for the children in the Valley of 1000 Hills,” said Laurel.
