Suzanne bids TMC goodbye

Suzanne Hofmeyr is looking forward to moving to Cape Town a month into her retirement.

THOMAS More College will soon bid farewell to Suzanne Hofmeyr, who has been working at the school in its various departments for 21 years.

“When I started here I was initially a class assistant for the first Grade 1 class, when the primary school first opened in 1993. I did that for two terms until I realised I couldn’t teach anybody anything and quickly moved into the admin side of the school,” said Suzanne.

She started her admin career as a secretary for the junior primary, which lasted a few years. She then took on the role of secretary for the headmaster of the primary school for another four years. “As the school continued to grow there was a need for someone to solely cover admissions and I took over that role in 1999,” said Suzanne.

She has many fond memories of the school but what stood out for her was that it is a happy, supportive place to work at and she believes the school environment was a wonderful place to be in.

Her three children, Sally, Nicholas and Clare all attended Thomas More College and were all Dux in their respective years. “I am going to miss the structure of this job but I will definitely enjoy having the freedom to do a range of activities. The first thing I plan to do in my retirement is to move to Cape Town at the end of March to be closer to my two daughters,” said Suzanne.

In her spare time she enjoys gardening and bird watching. “When I am in Cape Town I do hope to get involved in as many volunteer programmes as I can. From working at the Kirstenbosch Gardens to singing in a choir. I hope to be part of all the things the city has to offer. I will miss KwaZulu-Natal, everything except the humidity,” said Suzanne.

She said working at the school has been a privilege and was extremely grateful for the opportunity to work there.

“Suzanne Hofmeyr retires this month after 21 years of dedicated service to Thomas More College. She is deeply passionate about the ethos and values of the school and has been a wonderful ambassador. She will be sorely missed and we wish her well in her new venture in the Cape,” said Shane Cuthbertson, executive principal of Thomas More College.
