KZN on the road to e-tags
KwaZulu-Natal toll plazas are being prepared to accept e-tags.

Toll plazas in KwaZulu-Natal will be equipped to accept e-tags as part of the South African National Roads Agency Limited (Sanral) national roll out of electronic tolling.
Speaking at a presentation last week, Sanral boss Nazir Alli said e-tags reduced congestion as road-users did not have to stop at booths.
Sanral said it had not decided on the exact date when e-tolling would go live in the province.
According to Sanral, electronic toll collection is a tool that toll plazas will use in addition to current methods of payment and does not replace existing toll plazas.
KZN motorists would not be compelled to buy an e-tag, but they would be encouraged “to enjoy the benefits” of a speedy passage through payment points.
Alli did not say when e-tolling would be implemented in the province as the provincial and local governments would decide and public consultation would have to be done ahead of the implementation of e-tolls.
