Orphanages benefit from neknomination

The International Hotel's Durban Campus paid it forward.

SITHEMBAKUYE Children’s Village in Botha’s Hill, Sibusisiwe Children’s Home in Inchanga and Khulani Children’s Centre in Redhill were the grateful recipients of donated goods from the International Hotel School’s Durban Campus (IHS).

This was the result of the Durban Campus being nominated for a “neknomination” by The International Hotel School’s Cape Town Campus.

Twenty-eight students and two staff members travelled courtesy of Bophela Shuttle Services to drop off the donated toys, clothes, paper, maize meal, rice and colourful cupcakes baked by the culinary department to the three orphanages. All the items were either donated by the students or bought from money raised by the Student Representative Council through cake sales, hot dog day, popcorn sales and civvies day.

The IHS students played games with the children, sang songs and spoiled them with cupcakes before doing an official handover, which was coordinated by IHS Durban Principal, Geneé Griffiths.

“Well done to the Durban Campus on an awesome effort – seeing the happy smiles of all those children really touched our hearts and made it all worthwhile, ” said Griffiths.
