SPCA clinic educates communities

The KwaNgcolosi community is getting the message about animal care.

ALTHOUGH numbers were low at the Kloof & Highway SPCA’s Outreach sterilisation clinic in KwaNgcolos, near Inanda Dam, the good news is that the community is becoming more animal educated.

A large number of the community have already had their animals sterilised through the efforts of Jenny Konigkramer of Inanda Dog Project who operates in the area.

The 89 animals that were sterilised, vaccinated and treated for ticks, fleas and other external parasites over the two days were returned to their owners with blankets, food and a better understanding of how to look after their animals.

“They were a bit disappointed in numbers, but were so impressed with the people and the animals that did come. There were a lot of unwanted animals which is a double edged sword as it is so very sad they are unwanted, but at least you know they are never going to suffer unnecessary cruelty and be left to fend off hunger and thirst,” said Sarah van Heerden, Operations Manager for the Kloof & Highway SPCA.

The Kloof and Highway SPCA would like to thank its donors who make these clinics possible.

“Without our supporters generosity the Kloof and Highway SPCA would not be able to continue the work that we do in animal welfare, ” said Lisa Gadd, PR/Outreach Officer for the Kloof & Highway SPCA.
