LEARNING became a whole lot more technologically interactive for the pupils at Gillitts Primary School when they received 20 laptops recently.
Due to the combined efforts of the Rotary Club of Kloof and CookeFullerGarrun, insurance brokers and financial advisors, the school’s old storeroom was given a necessary revamp to house the computer lab.
“We see education as a foundation for the future of South Africa and we, the Rotary Club of Kloof, are currently embarking on a major drive to promote it, as well as computer training,” said Dr Richard Botes, president of the Rotary Club of Kloof.
In a collaboration between the Department of Communication, the Department of Basic Education and Telkom, 20 state of the art laptops were donated to the school.
Arti Jadoo, the principal of Gillitts Primary School thanked the Department of Communication, Telkom and the Department of Basic Education for giving Gillitts Primary School the opportunity and for the exposure of modern technology to its pupils and teachers.
It was the only school chosen in KwaZulu-Natal to host the launch day. Department officials, dignitaries and well wishers gathered and commemorated the launch and ribbon cutting ceremony. Pupils from other schools in the various provinces, which also received laptops, were able to view each other’s computer labs via live video streaming. Once the ribbon cutting was complete, the pupils were given the opportunity to utilise the 20 laptops as well interact with the pupils in other provinces via the video feed.
