Pinky’s dream becomes reality
Members from 31 Club and friends surprised Pinky with a brand new wheelchair and sewing material.
PINKY Mswane’s prayers were answered when women from 31 Club and friends surprised her with a brand new wheelchair, sewing material and an overlocker.
Pinky’s life changed drastically when she was diagnosed with spine TB in 2010 but this positive young woman who is full of life did not lose hope.
Pinky did a one year dress making course at the Thokobekwa Fashion School after matric. After her illness which left her paralyzed, Pinky was admitted at Hillcrest Chronic Hospital which has been her home since 2011.
Last month, Pinky was discharged from the hospital and she needed a proper wheelchair and a sewing machine so that she can continue with her life.
“I am very overwhelmed with what the women from 31 Club have done for me, I really did not expect it and I am so grateful.
“With my new wheelchair I can do things that I could not manage to do with my old one as it had fixed arms and with this one I can take them out.
“My home and surroundings are not meant for people with disabilities so this wheelchair will really help me. Now, I can concentrate on my sewing and move on with my life,” said Pinky.
Anne Collinge from 31 Club said she took notice of Pinky in 2011 when she visited the hospital.
“I really liked her from the beginning. I love her spirit. She told me stories and got along with everyone in the spirit.
“The idea to collect money for Pinky started when I read an article about a man overseas who was raising money through neknomination (an online drinking game).
“I then asked my family and friends to help me raise funds through other ways since I do not drink alcohol.
“People really came through as they helped us raise money which is why we have brought Pinky this wheelchair.
“A mother of another member in the club, Sheila Patterson donated her overlocker which was serviced and it now works like a brand new one,” said Collinge.
Pinky has another wheelchair at home which she got from the hospital, but she does not use it. Anyone who knows someone who is in need of a wheelchair can contact Pinky on 072 442 7711.
