Senior citizens enjoy recreation centre

Community and church driven donations have blessed the Greenfields Retirement Centre with a newly built recreation hall.

THE Greenfields Retirement Centre in Pinetown recently opened its newly built recreation hall.

According to Rev Ulinda Pembrooke, the chairman of the Pinetown Methodist Church and initiator of the project, the hall was built out of the elderly residents’ dire need for a space to conduct their social activities.

“We collected donations from church members and community members. Once we had the funds we required it took less than a year to complete the construction of the hall,” said Pembrooke.

Pembrooke reported that the hall will also be used as a space for any fundraising activities for the retirement centre.

While the physical construction is complete the residents still require cutlery, burglar guards and kitchen appliances and kitchen cupboards to complete the hall.

Maureen Blaikie, a Greenfields resident, said, “We are thrilled. We have already begun thinking of ways to use our new hall.”
