THREE robbers, between the ages of 34 and 39, were arrested on Wednesday morning in an intelligence driven operation for attempting to rob a company in Swanfield Road in Pinetown.

According to Lieutenant Bongumusa Manqele, media spokesman for the Pinetown SAPS, the Provincial Crime Intelligence Unit, the Special Task Force Unit and Pinetown Tactical Response Team combined forces to carry out the operation.

“At about 6.30am four robbers, driving in a gold Toyota Corolla, arrived at the company and when they were approached by the police they fired shots at the officers,” said Manqele.

Police returned fire and one of the robbers jumped out of the vehicle and fled, and he left his CZ 9mm pistol with 15 rounds of ammunition behind. Police gave chase and three robbers were arrested in Voortrekker Street in Ashley.

“Another firearm, Z88 pistol and 15 rounds of ammunition was found on the robbers,” concluded Manqele.

The three men will appear in the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court soon.
