Headshot victim ‘critical’
A man in his late 30s was shot and seriously wounded in an alleged hijacking in Wyebank.

KEVIN Pillay, a Phoenix resident who was shot in the head during a hijacking in Wyebank Road in Wyebank on Tuesday, 10 June, remains in a critical condition.
Initial reports claimed that the incident occurred in New Germany, but police later confirmed that the hijacking occurred in Wyebank.
Lt Bongumusa Manqele, communications officer at Pinetown SAPS, reported that three armed men were involved in the incident.
“It is believed that the victim was shot after the men demanded the keys to his vehicle and he refused to comply with their demands,” said Manqele.
According to ER24 spokesman, Werner Vermaak, paramedics received an emergency call from a distressed patron at a café shorty after 6pm who reported that a man had apparently been hijacked and shot in the head.
“The caller explained that the man stumbled into the café and collapsed on the floor,” said Vermaak.
Vermaak also reported that when ER24 and EMRS paramedics arrived on scene they found the victim lying in a pool of blood.
“He was severely disorientated. Paramedics immediately attempted to stop the bleeding and stabilise the injured man before rushing him off to a nearby hospital,” said Vermaak.
Authorities are yet to recover the vehicle that was taken from the 39-year-old man.
Manqele confirmed that a case of hijacking has been opened at the Pinetown police station, and that Pillay is still in a critical condition at the Hillcrest Private Hospital.
