Vote for your next Ward 18 councillor

Registered residents in Ward 18 will make their mark at voting stations across the Pinetown/Westville area today.

RESIDENTS in Ward 18 will take to the polls at six different voting stations tomorrow starting at 7am.

According to former councillor, Tim Brauteseth, residents can voting at the following voting stations, Gelofte High School on Caversham Road, Pinetown Civic Centre on Crompton Street, Cowies Hill Hall on Woodside Avenue, Westville Athletics Club on Maryvale Road, Atholl Heights Primary School on Methven Road in Westville North and Avon Junior Primary School on Avon Road, off Marlowe Road which is off Blair Atholl Road.

“Voting stations will be open from 7am to 9pm. Residents are encouraged to please take along their valid green, bar-coded ID. If you are uncertain about where you can vote, SMS your ID number to 32810, which is an IEC number. You will then receive a SMS stating where you are required to vote,” said Brauteseth.

Brauteseth added that some voters are confused between national and local elections.

“In a national election, a voter may vote anywhere. In a local government election, voters must vote where they reside,” added Brauteseth.

The DA’s candidate standing for the by-election is Bruce Sutcliffe. He is the brother of former city manager, Mike Sutcliffe. Bruce is also a qualified accountant who has done work for 14 small municipalities across KwaZulu-Natal, helping them put accounting and debt collection systems in place.

The ANC candidate standing for the by-election is Mboniseni Mtshali.

Brauteseth is urging all registered residents in Ward 18 to participate in the by-election. He said the outcome will determine who will represent Ward 18 at council level.

“Failure to vote could result in a low poll and the election of an unfit candidate. The future of Ward 18 is in your hands. Make this opportunity count in your favour,” added Brauteseth.
