Local woman vies for Mrs India SA title

Highway resident, Tracy Maharaj to take part in the Mrs India SA pageant.

HIGHWAY resident, Tracy Maharaj (38) will be among the women taking part in the Mrs India SA pageant to be held at the Sibaya Isizulu Theatre in Durban.

The Mrs India South Africa pageant is aimed at creating a platform for married women in South Africa. It focuses on empowerment, recognition and contribution of women in South Africa.

Tracy who resides in Farningham Ridge, Pinetown is married to Rakesh Maharaj and is a mother to two girls, Serisha (16) and Shreea (13).

Tracy said her key focus for competing in the Mrs India SA pageant is due to her leadership qualities.

“My main focus is motivating women of today that their dreams and opportunities for the future are endless.

“We should never feel inferior to being successful in every dominating career.

“We can be a mother, a wife, a full time CEO and still run an entire household all through sheer dedication and commitment while pursuing our dreams.

Tracy added that she would also focus on the youth and help the orphaned and homeless to reach their goals without being negatively influenced by drugs and abuse.

“I am a regular visitor at the ABH Children’s Home in Chatsworth and I will continue to help children in every possible way.

“I am a staunch Hindu but believe in all religions and would never discriminate against the rest. I have a huge passion for dance and art,” she said.

Tracy currently runs her own accounting practice and has a national diploma in credit management.

She also has a NQF level 4 in property and is a registered Property Practitioner in Real Estate (PPRE).

She has been the governing body chairman at Benjamin Pine Primary School for the past 13 years and is currently on the parents’ council at Thomas More College. She has also been the secretary at the MSSS temple in Mariannhill for the past three years.
