Bright new future for Oxford theatre venue
The old Heritage Theatre is to become the new Oxford West End Theatre.
THE popular Heritage Theatre has made way for the new Oxford West End Theatre.
At a meeting with interested parties last week, owner of Oxford Village, Brett Latimer, spoke about his future plans for the theatre and addressed rumours that have been doing the rounds regarding the closing of the Heritage Theatre and the opening of the new theatre venue.
Latimer told those present that he hoped with the right approach and support, they could make the new theatre work. As an avid theatre-goer himself, he said he looked forward to being part of the audience and supporting local artists.
“I would like you to support us. I need it, the artists need it and Hillcrest needs it,” said Latimer.
With his ability to provide cost price food and liquor, and with upgrades to the theatre such as improved sound quality, he said he was hoping to keep entrance fees down and attract audiences with talented new artists.
Other possible plans being considered for the theatre venue, besides theatre nights, Latimer said included having local school children involved in productions, hosting open mic nights and a nightclub that would operate from the venue from 11pm to 4am.
Latimer encouraged the artists to come forward with ideas of how they could improve the success of the theatre. He said regular meetings would be held to discuss the way forward.
“Your success will be my success. I don’t have the time or the talent so I am going to encourage you to use this as a platform for your own dreams and successes,” he said.
