WBHS 1st soccer team downs Hilton
Overall it was a good team performance from WBHS with their work rate and attitude being their biggest strengths.
WESTVILLE Boys’ High School’s 1st soccer team started the match against Hilton extremely well, displaying composure and confidence as the ball was moved around quickly and efficiently.
WBHS utilised the width of the field and kept the ball for long periods, however Hilton put some pressure on them and started to catch WBHS on the counter attack getting behind WBHS’s defence on two occasions. Both times their efforts were stopped by WBHS keeper, Jesse Smith. Both teams had several chances but were unable to score during the first half.
The WBHS XI started the second half applying more pressure on Hilton’s defence and not allowing them out of their own half. This pressure paid off in the 34th-minute after a corner by striker Kyan Braithwaite was met by defender Bradley Smith, who directed his looped header into the top right corner. WBHS’s confidence grew for the rest of the game displaying some attractive football from the lads.
WBHS’s second goal came in the 43rd-minute. Some good passing from the defence through to midfielder Bongani Ndimande, Kyan Braithwaithe and Lindo Buthelezi saw winger Tony Mahlangu net the second goal. The Hilton goalkeeper pulled off some great saves as the WBHS strikers continued to break through the Hilton defence with shots on goal.
Overall it was a good team performance from WBHS with their work rate and attitude being their biggest strengths. The positive team spirit from the WBHS team was also visibly evident for the first time this season.
