Armed robberies spike in Westville

Westville SAPS are currently investigating three cases of armed robberies that occurred in Westville on Wednesday 6 August.

WESTVILLE police have confirmed three incidents of armed robbery in Westville yesterday.

According to Sgt Stephen Clark, communications officer at the Westville SAPS, there were three unrelated armed robbery incidents in Westville yesterday. One attempted and two successful.

“In the attempt, at a house in Ferndale Road, Westville central, a driveway gate was derailed by four men in a blue Nissan Almera, but they were disturbed and fled without confronting anyone.

“CCTV footage shows they were wearing balaclavas and were armed with at least one handgun.

“In another incident in Westville North, a domestic worker was attacked at her place of employment and assaulted by robbers. She was treated at the scene by paramedics.

“Trauma counselling was arranged by the SAPS for the family through the CPF project, Safetynet. Several items was stolen from the property.

“At a third incident, a complainant in Berea West was allegedly followed home from the bank by robbers who only managed to escape with a small amount of cash, R100,” said Clark.

He added that the Westville SAPS were swift to respond to all incidents and have opened cases. Investigations are proceeding.

“At this time we do not believe any of the incidents are related as in each occasion where vehicles were used, there were different descriptions, including that of the robbers.

“We are investigating each case with due diligence and our sister units from LCRC (fingerprints) have also done their duty,” said Clark.
