KSP unveils slick new uniform

After 18 months of planning and designing, the new uniform for Kloof Senior Primary School pupils was unveiled recently.

THERE was an air of anticipation in the Kloof Senior Primary school hall recently as the pupils sat quietly awaiting the stage curtains to open and their brand new school uniform to be unveiled.

The principal of Kloof Senior Primary School, Bernice Love, advised the children that after 18 months of working on a new look for KSP, the committee was finally ready to present the new uniform. The committee, consisting of members of staff, governing body representatives, Mrs Dobson – the principal of Kloof Junior Primary and their Governing Body representatives, Gems Schoolwear and Chrisna Vermaak, the uniform shop owner, all played a vital role in the decision making process.

For many years KSP girls wore a yellow shirt covered by a brown pinafore and brown shoes, while the boys wore the same as they wear today (grey shorts and a white shirt), except with brown shoes and a school tie and brown tracksuit with orange trim. In 1989 there was a major change in the girls’ uniform, where they moved to the orange and white checked dress, still keeping the brown shoes. The boys tie was done away with in 1994 and over a period of time the brown school shoes and tracksuit were phased out for both boys and girls, introducing black school shoes.

History was once again made when eight pupils modelled the new uniform for the school and received a loud applause. The new uniform still embraces the colours of Kloof Senior Primary School, blue and yellow. The new blue, white and yellow tartan dress and the boys’ white shirt with tartan set in the collar are a fresh new look for the pupils. The introduction of navy shorts for boys and new school socks, for both boys and girls, complete the look. The tracksuit is a solid navy blue microfibre with some yellow binding which will be worn with the multi – purpose shirt. In keeping with the “Proudly KSP” theme, all items of clothing proudly display the new look badge.

KSP also unveiled the new house shirts which will be worn for PE and all extra-mural and inter-house activities. It consists of the four house colour shirts, indicating the names of the houses, worn with navy blue Quantec shorts and the new sports socks.

For all sports matches the children will turn out in their match kits, consisting of a multi–purpose shirt, together with navy Quantec shorts and the new style sports socks.

Pupils can start wearing the uniform immediately, but parents will be advised shortly of the few items which are compulsory with effect from January 2015, with all other uniform only being compulsory in January 2016.

Bernice extended her heartfelt thanks to all role-players who helped create the fresh new look for the Kloof Senior Primary School pupils.
