Scouts learn life values

Over 1500 cubs and scouts from the KZN province took part in the annual Scouts South Africa competition rally recently.

SCOUT troop from Pinetown, Imbaliyamazulu troop, brought home a trophy when they took part in the annual Scouts South Africa competition rally recently. Over 1500 cubs and scouts from the KZN province took part in the competition that was held in Ladysmith. Minister of Finance Nhlanhla Nene and Chief Scout Sibusiso Vilane attended the event. This year, the winning Cub Pack was Mbhasobheni Pack from the Zululand District. Scouts South Africa is an independent, non-profit educational movement dedicated to the development of young people in achieving their full potential as individuals and responsible citizens. Central in this programme is a continuous transference of values such as honesty, loyalty, responsibility, respect; all aimed at governing individual behaviour and the development of strong leadership skills that will equip members to be of service to others and to their communities. Nene said the values of scouting have endured the many changes that our society has gone through. “A scout is a leader and a good scout must have hope. People must continue to uphold the values of scouting as they will serve them well. “Scouts should look up to their Chief Scout, Sibusiso Vilane who is an inspiration to them all. He added that, if the country has civil servants that subscribe to the scout values there will be less corruption. “If we have the private sector subscribing to the values of scouting we will have a better world,” said Nene.
