A HILLCREST woman was lucky escape with her life after she was attacked and threatened with rape when she was held up by two men in her home on Tuesday afternoon.
An alert neighbour contacted Blue Security to report the incident. Brian Jackson, the operations manager for the security company, said an armed reaction officer arrived at the woman’s home in Waterbury Close within minutes.
“It was unclear whether the men were armed but they held up the resident and ripped off her clothes, threatening to rape her,” he said.
“They ripped off the left side of her shirt and the top right side of her pants and hit her on the head with a brick. The attackers covered their faces with clothes so that she could not identify them.
“They robbed her of jewellery and demanded the keys to the safe,”said Jackson. “She showed the men the safe and they fled with an undisclosed sum of cash. The men were wearing blue overalls and are still at large.”
Jackson noted that the incident was the latest of several crimes where robbers had dressed in blue overalls and posed as workers.
“We urge residents to be vigilant and to take care when arriving home and leaving in the mornings as these are prime times for criminal attacks.
“If you notice any individuals loitering outside or a strange vehicle with passengers who appear to just be waiting casually, that make you feel uneasy, rather wait before leaving home or drive around the block.
“If the suspicious individuals remain nearby call the police and your security company for assistance,” he said.
