Bullet smashes driver’s windows on N3
A motorist's two windows were recently shattered by what experts believed was a bullet.
A MOTORIST had a close brush with death when what was believed to have been a stray bullet flew through her car’s window.
The projectile hit Candice Harris’ car, shattering two windows, while she was travelling on the N3 near the Paradise Valley Nature Reserve recently.
It is believed an object hit her passenger front window, also penetrating the windscreen. She was travelling from Durban towards Pinetown just before 4pm, just before the M13 split.
Pinetown Glasfit manager, Kevin Paliyathan, said Harris took her car to the store for repairs on Wednesday, 8 October, the same day the incident happened.
“She didn’t know it was a bullet until we informed her that we suspected it was a bullet. If it was a stone it would not have left burn marks on the windscreen,” Paliyathan said.
He explained that there’s a vinyl film between two pieces of glass that make up a car window. When a hot object passes through the window, it leaves a burn mark, like it did on Harris’ window.
“Stones don’t burn vinyl,” he added.
He said the damage to Harris’ car amounted to about R4500.
