A TWENTY-year-old man was arrested this morning for unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition.
Pinetown Rapid Response Unit police were performing patrol duties along Newton Road at Mariannhill Industrial Park in Pinetown when they spotted two suspicious looking men.
Pinetown SAPS communications officer, Lt Bongumusa Manqele said, upon searching the men, police found a Glock 9mm pistol with five rounds of ammunition in a disposable food container from one of them.
“The firearm will be sent for ballistic tests to determine if it was used in the commission of other crimes around the country,” said Manqele.
The man has been charged for unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition and is expected to appear in the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court tomorrow, 28 November.
