Rare birds spotted at Big Birding Day

Birding enthusiasts were in for a treat.

Kloof Conservancy joined forces with Durban Green Corridor to host a Big Birding Day guided tour at iSithumba Adventures in the Valley of a Thousand Hills on Saturday, 29 November.

BirdLife South Africa’s annual Birding Big Day marked the 30th annual Birding Big Day and an exciting new category ‘Bird your Hood’ gave participants 24 hours to go birding in the garden, local park or school grounds.

Durban Green Corridor which spans the uMngeni River Valley was the ideal location to participate and welcomed new and experienced birders to the valley. Sites available along the corridor included iSithumba Adventures, eNanda Adventures along Inanda Dam’s water edge and Kwa Dabeka Adventures where the African Finfoot can be found.

Plenty of bird species were spotted including some rare sightings such as the Village Indigo Bird, African Black Duck and Giant Kingfisher.
