Twelve injured in taxi crash
One man was seriously injured and was trapped in the taxi.
TWELVE people were injured when a taxi smashed into a tree along Willingdon Avenue in Kloof this morning.
“Reports from the scene indicate that the taxi collided with another vehicle while overtaking, then veered off the roadway and came to rest against a tree trapping the front passenger,” said Chris Botha, media spokesman for Netcare 911.
The paramedics, along with a rescue unit, arrived at the scene and found one person trapped in the vehicle while 11 others were on the verge.
A Netcare rescue officer used the Jaws of Life to free the injured passenger. According to Botha, it took 40 minutes to remove the man’s legs from the squashed dashboard. Medics stabilised the trapped passenger while he was being freed.
After the injured were treated at the scene, they were transported to various hospitals.
