A SECURITY guard was lucky to escape with his life when a criminal fleeing from a crime scene at a business premises in New Germany allegedly took a shot at him.
“The security guard was patrolling at around 3pm when he detected three men on the property, who fled when they realised they had been spotted. The security guard gave chase and one of the men fired a shot at him but fortunately he missed,” said Blue Security’s operations manager, Brian Jackson.
The armed robbers had removed palisade fencing to break into the premises and were in the process of removing three spare wheels from the trucks parked on the property when they were spotted. The Pinetown SAPS attended the scene of the crime.
In a separate incident, two armed men hijacked a resident of his Peugeot as he was about to leave his home on Hilmer Road.
Jackson warned early morning joggers to be vigilant following the assault and mugging of a runner in Kloof recently. “The resident had gone out for his early morning jog along Abelia Road and was running towards Impangele Road when two men approached him on foot and robbed him of his takkies,” he said. “The robbers assaulted the jogger and fled on foot. He had minor injuries but did not require emergency medical treatment,” he said.
A resident was robbed in broad daylight in Glockner Street in New Germany after three men in a white Nissan bakkie followed her home. “The men held her up and robbed her of laptops, a television and her handbag which contained cash, a tablet and a camera. The Pinetown SAPS attended the scene of the crime,” said Jackson.
Jackson said robbers attempted to mug two students of their cellphones in Harvey Road in Pinetown but the duo fled the scene and found refuge inside a nearby church.
Armed robbers also targeted a business in Hill Street in Pinetown on Wednesday morning. “Two armed men entered the shop posed as customers and held up the manager as he was about to load cash into an ATM on site,” said Jackson. The men hit the manager on the head with the butt of a firearm and fled with two cash boxes. The manager was taken to hospital.
