NMI’s sales manager nabbed for R4.5 million fraud

Fred Njabulo Mfeka was granted R50 0000 bail and the case remanded to 26 February 2015, pending further investigations.

A SALES manager, Fred Njabulo Mfeka, was arrested along with two other employees at NMI DSM in Westmead, on allegations of fraud totalling R4.5.

The alleged fraud was discovered by a financial director when doing an inspection of documents. He reported it to the police and the case was handed over to fraud specialist, Detective Warrant Officer Alec Moodley, on 1 November.

According to Moodley, after intense investigations, he uncovered a system which used false invoices from a business owned by Mfeka, and two other companies.

The Assets and Forfeiture Unit (AFU) will now follow up to recover some of the funds lost.

The three employees were arrested and appeared in the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court on 10 December. Mfeka was granted R50 000 bail, however the charges for the other two were provisionally withdrawn pending further investigation and possibly another arrest.

The case was remanded to 26 February next year.
