HCA welcomes new principal

Curro Hillcrest Christian Academy welcomed its new high school headmaster, Steve Cromie.

THE CURRO Hillcrest Christian Academy celebrates its twenty-first birthday this year, and what better way to do so than with the announcement of the appointment of their new high school headmaster, Steve Cromie.

With the high school growing to Grade 10 this year, and an enrolment of 209 pupils (of which 90 are Grade 8s), the school is making encouraging progress.

Cromie, who is married to Sandy and has two children, Matthew and Sarah, comes from a sound educational background. He obtained a BA HDE Degree in English and Psychology, as well as his LDP in Educational Strategy and Management. He has taught at a number of schools including Glenwood High School and Glenmore Primary School, and was, more recently, the deputy headmaster of Thomas More College and then executive head at Curro Mount Richmore in Ballito.

Melville Temlett, the school’s 0executive head, said: “We have an exciting educational model based on twenty-first century skills that will help pupils discover their roads to greatness. The new premises will be built this year, and we plan to move onto the 7.2-hectare land by January next year. The estate will boast five tennis courts, with a resident professional coaching team in JT Tennis, along with an astro turf field for hockey, three fields for cricket, rugby and soccer and a swimming pool with another resident professional coach.

“Netball, water polo and girls’ touch rugby will also be offered. The hall will have multi-purpose facilities to accommodate drama, music and indoor sports. With the development in the Highway area, the increased residential property growth in Hillcrest and the near completion of Inanda Road, our high school could not have come at a better time. There is still much to do, but with our team of educators we have the privilege of serving our primary clients – the pupils – with an exceptional programme,” Temlett added.
