Man arrested and tied to several housebreakings in Malvern

Malvern SAPS recovered stolen property and arrested a man linked to several housebreakings in the area.

MALVERN SAPS celebrated another crime-busting victory after the station’s House Breaking Unit, together with the Chatsworth Cluster Task and Crime intelligence unit, arrested a man linked to several housebreakings in the area.

According to Warrant Officer Radhika Marimuthu, corporate communications officer at the station, the Chatsworth Cluster Task Team acted on information received and swooped on the perpetrator, who was said to be selling what were believed to be stolen goods at the Shallcross Shopping Centre. “When the suspect saw the officers he attempted to run away but was quickly apprehended,” she said.

The man then began pointing out the people he had successfully sold the stolen items to. Cell phones, iPads, laptops and other electronic goods were recovered from the suspect and his buyers. “The recovered property was positively identified by the complainants from the Malvern area,” added W/O Marimuthu. The perpetrators who bought the goods from the suspect were charged for being in possession of stolen property. The man was also positively identified by complainants from more than two other housebreaking incidents, positively linking him to other cases of housebreaking in the Malvern area. The public is cautioned against buying property suspected to be stolen as this can result in arrest.
