Training resumes at Shongweni Dam

Test results have revealed that the water at the Shongweni Dam is up to standard.

UMZINYATHI paddlers are back on track with their training after the first batch of results revealed that the quality of the water in the Shongweni Dam is up to standard. The club recommenced with their Dusi training at their weekly Wednesday dice night.

Chairman of the Umzinyathi Canoe Club, Jeff Cawood, said, “The dam has always boasted the best setting for paddling with really good water quality. Judging by the latest E. coli test results, this is still true. We take water quality very seriously so are relieved that the problem was isolated and is now back to the original safe level. We will, however, be doing further tests to make sure it stays that way.”

According to Cawood, it is believed the substance found in the dam could have been rotting vegetation and not sewage.

The results from the eThekwini Water and Sanitation Department were released on Tuesday and Wednesday. The outstanding results for the last test is expected to be released next week.
