CIARA van Niekerk is reaping the benefits of her dedication and discipline. The Grade 11 Waterfall College pupil has been chosen as the school’s Spar Star of the Month. The passionate athlete was recently awarded her KZN colours for drum majorettes. Her commitment to her team has also earned her the honour of being selected as the captain of the 2015 Waterfall College Drummies Team. Sports co-ordinator, Mrs Christine Eriksen wished Ciara, her team and her coach, Megan Roth all the success for the upcoming year.
Balancing her passion for drummies with her Grade 11 academic studies, Ciara is currently training hard with the rest of the squad. They are preparing for the upcoming provincial drum majorettes competitions, aiming to qualify for the national event to be held in Bloemfontein this year.
Principal of Waterfall College, Jeanette van der Merwe, said, “This is a very demanding sport. Few people realise how many hours go into the finely co-ordinated displays which are so professionally presented. Well done to Ciara for achieving her KZN colours.”
