Lions Club enhances visual learning at Fulton

Fulton School for Deaf recently benefitted from the funds raised at a golf day that was hosted by the Lions Club of Cowies Hill.

LESSONS at Fulton School for the Deaf will now be filled with more excitement and interaction, after the Lions Club of Cowies Hill donated an interactive board which will improve visual learning for the pupils.

President of the Lions Club of Cowies Hill, Lyn Botha, said working with the blind and deaf are one of the club’s main projects. The club purchased the board with the funds they raised at their golf day last year, which was held in partnership with motor dealers from around Durban, at the Kloof County Club.

Beryl Campbell, principal of the Gillitts school said visual learning is essential for children with hearing impairments. “The interaction board can be linked to a computer and internet and this opens up another world to our children. They will also be able to interact with the material.”

HOD for the foundation phase and Grade one teacher, Ujala Maikoo expressed her excitement about the donation and emphasised the importance of having such resources at their school. “This interactive board is an amazing tool as deaf pupils rely on bold and bright visual material. With this board, we will be able to take them into a technical era and introduce them to videos and interactive content which will impact on their development.”
