Geyser blankets reduce energy consumption

Cut costs by reducing energy consumption in your home.

WITH the increase in power outages, it is important to find methods to save electricity and cut costs. One way to save electricity is by using a geyser blanket, which is an additional layer of insulation designed to wrap around the geyser.

Geysers are known for their high energy consumption, and research has shown that geysers are responsible for as much as 60 percent of a household’s monthly electricity bill.

The inexpensive geyser blankets helps reduce energy consumption. If your geyser is not insulated, water is constantly being reheated with a resultant escalation in daily electricity usage. Water in your geyser is continually being reheated if your geyser is not insulated with a thermal blanket. This will result in a noticeable increase in your everyday power usage as the seasons change and temperatures decrease.

Made with fibreglass insulation with a reflective foil cover on one side, a good geyser blanket reduces the rate of cooling of the water inside the geyser considerably.

Tip: Some geysers come with a built-in geyser blanket, which cannot be seen from the outside of the tank. To check if your geyser has a blanket installed already, put your hand against the outside of your geyser to test the temperature. If the geyser is cold when switched on it means that it may already have a blanket installed on the inside. If its hot then it means it is losing heat and you need to invest in a blanket.
