MIA aims to empower men
MIA coordinator, Pastor Sihle Ngubane said he believes that when you empower men, you empower the nation.
RESTO-Life Foundation has launched programmes under Men In Action (MIA) to cater for and empower men.
The aim of MIA is to empower men through skills development, create business opportunities and link departments with communities, as well as mentor those who need to succeed in business and provide resources to assist those in desperate need.
Pastor Sihle Ngubane, MIA coordinator, said Restore-Life has been involved in assisting communities with food and clothing, and empowering women through skills development and various activities to better the livelihood of the society.
“However, we felt that women and children have been given more attention and that men are being isolated.
“There is this stigma that men are strong – they are not allowed to show their feelings. Men should know that there is a platform where they can meet and discuss their problems.
“Most of the time, men end up doing the wrong things because they bottle things up and take out their anger and frustrations on innocent people,” said Ngubane.
MIA wishes to equip people with various skills, such as brick laying, reading, sewing and starting up their own businesses.
“I believe that when you empower men, you empower the nation. We hope to teach men skills that they can also share with others and empower them in their communities,” he said.
Ngubane said they have realised that there is a large number of men who live in poverty due to the fact that they are not informed about opportunities and resources available, both in government departments and in the private sector, in order for them to succeed.
“MIA is determined to partner with anyone who share the same sentiments and is willing to assist by teaching skills or purchasing manufacturing equipment, or any sponsorship, to further the lives of men in our communities.”
