18 injured in Pinetown collisions

Police will be investigating the causes of the accidents, which are unknown at this stage.

EIGHTEEN people were injured following three consecutive accidents in the Pinetown area this morning (Wednesday, 22 April).

According to Garrith Jamieson, operations director at Rescue Care, paramedics were called just before 7am after a taxi overturned on the N3 Durban-bound before the Paradise Valley interchange.

“On arrival paramedics found that two people had suffered moderate injuries while six others had minor injuries. They were stabilised and then taken to various hospitals,” said Jamieson.

He then said that around 8am Rescue Care paramedics were called to Richmond Road outside the RTI offices for yet another taxi accident. Nine people were hurt, one seriously so. Once Advanced Life Support paramedics had stabilised the injured they were also taken to various hospitals.

“Around the same time at 8am Rescue Care paramedics were called again, this time to the M7 west-bound on-ramp to the N3 north-bound. Two vehicles had collided on the on-ramp. One person suffered moderate injuries,” said Jamieson.

It is unknown what the cause of these collisions were; however, SAPS were on the scene and will be investigating.
