Team Endeavour belts to victory in model rocket car race

The UK-based Bloodhound Super-Sonic Car (SSC) Project is currently developing a jet and rocket-powered car that will attempt to break the world land speed record in the Northern Cape later this year.

KEARSNEY College’s Team Endeavour blasted their way to victory after building and racing a model rocket car in a competition aimed at stimulating interest in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

The UK-based Bloodhound Super-Sonic Car (SSC) Project is currently developing a jet and rocket-powered car that will attempt to break the world land speed record in the Northern Cape later this year.

Linked in with Kearsney’s Maths and Science Excellence programme, Bloodhound education ambassador, Chris Maxwell, explained the project after which five four-man teams from Kearsney built their own mini rockets and raced against each other to find the fastest vehicle.

The winning Team Endeavour comprised Grade 11 pupils Cuan Crocker, Gianluca Pauselli, Brendan Stead and Dan van Zyl, who achieved a top speed of 171km/h.
