KwaNdengezi police seek next of kin

Man killed by community members for allegedly stealing electrical cables yet to be identified.

KWANDENGEZI police are looking for anyone who can help them trace relatives of a man who was killed by the community in the KwaZwelibomvu area for allegedly stealing cables.

The man is suspected to be a foreigner and is light in complexion. He was wearing grey socks, a black T-shirt, black underwear and a grey jacket.

According to the investigating officer, D/W/O Bongani Ngcobo, it is alleged that an unidentified person phoned KwaNdengezi SAPS, reporting that a man has been caught by the community of Masomini area, KwaZwelibomvu while stealing electrical cables.

“It is alleged that he was found with two bundles of wire already cut from nearby residents’ homes. A car that the cables were going to be loaded into sped off from the scene,” said Ngcobo.

Police that attended the scene and found the man dead.

“Next to him there were two bundles of rolled electric cable of around 100 metres. There were broken sticks, which were suspected to have been used by community members to assault the deceased.”
