Man sentenced to 15 years for Pinetown robbery

The accused appeared in the Pinetown Magistrate’ Court several times before he was sentenced.

A MAN was sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment for robbery in the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 3 September.

According to Provincial SAPS spokesman, Major Thulane Zwane, on 12 August, 2014 at around 2.30pm a 22-year-old man was driving along Josiah Gumede Road in Pinetown when he was approached by two men, who threatened him with a knife. They demanded his cellphone, wallet and watch.

The two men ran away with the items but one was apprehended by the victim and found in possession of the cellphone and the wallet.

Police were alerted and the accused was arrested and taken to the Pinetown police station.

Dumisani Nhlanhla Thabethe (28) was charged with robbery and he appeared in the Pinetown Magistrate’ Court several times before he was sentenced.

“The investigating officer applied his investigative skills and gathered all the necessary evidence,” said Zwane.
