Gas service fee is perfectly legal

"Charging a service/filling fee is completely legal and helps to cover costs."

EDITOR

In response to the letter from Disgusted User dated 11 September regarding “ Gas filling charge – is this really legal?”

Any LPGas practitioner who charges the government regulated LPGas price only, is simply not covering their operating costs relating to filling the smaller “Cadac” type gas cylinders. A gas filling “service” is seen as just that, a service delivered to the public with little or no profit.

Charging a service/filling fee is completely legal and helps to cover costs such as labour, electricity and equipment maintenance associated with filling these smaller cylinders.

It is important to understand that service and filling fees only relate to smaller cylinders that require filling and not larger gas cylinders such as 9kg’s, 14kgs and 19kgs that are exchanged in store.
