UPDATE: UKZN students kicked out of res

Students have until noon to vacate residency.

THE University of KwaZulu Natal (UKZN) on Thursday, 17 September called for all students living in campus residences to vacate by Friday, 18 September.

Vice-chancellor and principal, Dr Albert van Jaarsveld, sent an e-mail on Thursday, 17 September, requesting that res students vacate residency by noon on Friday.

“The university management has taken the decision to close all student residences, including off-campus leased and university-owned residences,” Van Jaarsveld said in the e-mail.

According to Van Jaarsveld, the sudden request is due to the continued violence, the unwarranted arson, the unprecedented destruction of property and the threats to the safety and security in residences and UKZN campuses.

It stated that legal residence students would be allowed back into the residences on Sunday, September 27.
